Independent residential communities are for seniors desiring a leisurely, hassle free lifestyle. Often including some extra services and features that many retired people would especially enjoy or find helpful. Beyond home maintenance, some services available might include meals, social programs, transportation, organized outings, shopping trips, sometimes even limited medical services.

Features might include; easy  handicapped access, emergency pull cords, first floor access or elevators. Some communities offer only Independent Living, others additionally offer Assisted Living to allow the senior to "age in place" by adding services as the need may arise.
